OneBob in Claude, ChatGPT and 9brains
Connect your AI assistant to the OneBob MCP server and work with customers, deals, projects and time tracking right from the chat. One URL, a short sign-in, and your own permissions apply.
Overview
OneBob runs its own MCP server (Model Context Protocol), the open standard AI assistants use to work with other apps. Once connected, your assistant can look things up and make changes in OneBob for you: more than 140 tools cover customers, contacts, deals, projects, tasks, time tracking, absences, travel expenses and more. Every app connects to the same address: https://api.onebob.io/mcp
- Connecting takes about a minute: add the URL in your AI app, sign in to OneBob and allow the connection.
- The assistant acts as you, in the one workspace you choose, and can never do more than your own role allows.
- Claude, ChatGPT and 9brains need no token: the app signs in through OAuth and renews its access on its own while you use it.
- You can disconnect an app at any time under Connected apps in OneBob.
Estimated time: about a minute per app.
Before You Begin
- Your workspace is on the Professional or Enterprise plan; these plans include API access.
- You have a OneBob account with an active membership in that workspace. If the workspace requires two-factor authentication, set it up first.
- Your AI app allows custom MCP connectors. Some apps offer this only on certain plans of their own or behind a developer mode.
- Keep the MCP server URL at hand: https://api.onebob.io/mcp
Connect Claude
This works in claude.ai and in Claude Desktop.
- 1In Claude, open the connector settings and add a custom connector.
- 2Give it a name such as OneBob and enter the URL https://api.onebob.io/mcp. Nothing else is needed: no client ID, no secret.
- 3Save and connect. Claude opens the OneBob consent page in your browser (step 4).
Connect ChatGPT
ChatGPT connects to OneBob as a custom MCP connector.
- 1In ChatGPT, open the connector settings and add a custom MCP connector. If the option is missing, your ChatGPT plan may offer it only in a developer mode.
- 2Enter the URL https://api.onebob.io/mcp and choose OAuth as the authentication method.
- 3Create the connector and connect. ChatGPT opens the OneBob consent page (step 4).
Connect 9brains
9brains connects to OneBob as an MCP server.
- 1In 9brains, open the settings for MCP servers and add a new MCP server.
- 2Enter the URL https://api.onebob.io/mcp. If 9brains asks for the authentication method, choose OAuth.
- 3Save and connect. 9brains opens the OneBob consent page (step 4).
Allow the connection in OneBob
The consent page is the same for every app. It shows the name of the app and the domain it connects to.
- 1Sign in to OneBob if you are not signed in yet. OneBob may ask for your password again before you can allow an app.
- 2Check the app name and the domain. Under Organization, pick the one workspace the app may act in.
- 3Click Allow. You return to the app, and the connection is live.
- 4What the assistant may do follows your own permissions: it sees and changes only what your role allows in that workspace. If your role changes, so does what the assistant can do.
Claude Code and other clients with a token
A client that cannot sign in through OAuth but can send a header uses a personal access token instead.
- 1In OneBob, open the API Tokens page (/settings/api-tokens) and create a token with the permissions the client needs. The token is shown only once, so copy it right away.
- 2In the client, add the MCP server with the URL https://api.onebob.io/mcp and send the token in the Authorization header as Bearer followed by the token.
- 3The permissions of the token decide which tools the client is offered and which it may call. Revoke the token on the same page when you no longer need it.
Disconnect an app
You stay in control of every connection.
- 1In OneBob, open the API Tokens page (Settings, or the user menu top right) and find the app under Connected apps.
- 2Click Disconnect. The app loses access immediately.
- 3A connection left unused for 30 days expires on its own; to use it again, connect it from the app.
Tips & Troubleshooting
- No workspace offered on the consent page? The plan of the workspace has no API access, your role cannot use any of the requested permissions, the workspace requires two-factor authentication you have not set up yet, or you already have 10 connected apps there.
- "OneBob does not know this app"? The registration of the app expired because it went unused for a long time. Remove the OneBob connector in the app, add it again and connect.
- Asked for your password? Allowing an app is a sensitive step, so OneBob confirms your password when you last entered it more than 15 minutes ago.
- Start with a question that only reads data, such as which deals are due this month, before you let the assistant change anything.
- Connecting the same app again replaces the old connection, so you never end up with duplicates.
